Beware of web pages with banners that say things like "Your Computer Has A Virus," "We've Detected A Virus On Your Computer - Click Here," "Security Alert" or even a flashing "Your Computer Is Under Attack!" Though they may look very official, your browser has NOT detected a virus and given you a warning notice.
Those banners are actually ads, a marketing technique to scare Internet users into clicking on the banner, which then sends you to a page selling a product or service.

Search engines help you quickly and easily sort through the near-infinite info on the web to find just what you're looking for. Here are a few of our favorites:
www.google.com - Offers an "Advanced Search" that lets you specify language, file format, date, and domain. Also offers an image search and a search of 4,000 continuously updated news sources. It even offers a "front page" of news stories that change during the day based on where and how often the stories appear on the web. Google searches approximately 2.5 billion web pages for responses to search requests.
www.altavista.com - Gives you a list of web pages that contain the term you entered in your search as well as a list of other terms that appear most often on those pages. Enter "Titanic" and the site can help you refine your search using these terms: RMS Titanic, Titanic Memorabilia, Harland Wolff, White Star, Artifacts, Disaster, Lifeboats, Movie, and more.
www.askjeeves.com - Lets you ask a question using everyday conversational language. With a very simple question, you might get a direct answer back. With a more complex question, you'll get a list of web sites to check out.
www.alltheweb.com - Allows you to narrow your search in several ways: to pages that contain, or don't contain, certain types of content (such as audio or video), to certain domains (such as .com or .edu), to pages of a certain size, from a certain geographical region, even by depth in a web page (to only pages on the top level, or home page, of a site for instance.)
